Football World Cup Brasil 2014: Germany defeated already qualified US with 1-0


RECIFE: Thomas Mueller hit an rebellious 20-metre shot which helps Germany to get 1-0 victory over the United States and firs position in World Cup Group G.

Former German boss Jurgen Klinsmann's side already made place in the last 16 despite the 1-0 defeat in rain-sodden Recife.

The 24-year-old German is now just six goals behind the all-time scoring record, which is jointly held by Muller's team-mate Miroslav Klose and former Brazilian striker Ronaldo.

The 1-0 win and Germany's subjection of the game answered doubters who had suggested the two sides could be happy with a draw that would see them both through to the second round.
