Football World Cup Brasil 2014: James Rodrigues gave Colombia 2-0 win to have aproach in final eight
RIO DE JANEIRO: Colombia defeated Uruguay by 2-0 with the splint of Monaco star Rodriguez to book quarter final with Brazil, Maracana on Saturday.
Rodriguez has achieved a name in top of the World Cup scoring charts on five goals as he proved that why European's club wanted to sign him.
"As a younger man, I always wanted to be here," said Rodriguez. "That was a great dream of mine and we hope that we can make it far.
"It is a dream and we are making history and we want to do even more because this is a team that wants to win a lot.
"There is no pressure. Obviously Brazil have their good players, they play well but I believe they must also follow us closely.
"We have good players and we can be dangerous, so this is going to be a beautiful match. It will be something extraordinary for us to play."
Rodriguez opened the scoring on 28 minutes against Uruguay with a wonderful volley from 20 yards and set Colombia on lead.
His first attempt was considered as adversary for goal of the tournament as he control a looping header from Abel Aguilar on his chest, Rodriguez struck a magnificent volley on the turn that skimmed over the goalkeeper's fingertips and crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
His second was a simple tap in after Juan Cuadrado headed Pablo Armero´s deep cross back into the danger zone.
Uruguay's would be missing Suarez had been handled worldwide ban for biting Italy´s Giorgio Chiellini.
Even though he was back home in Uruguay, his team laid out his kit in the changing rooms at the Maracana.
Rodriguez was the star of the show with a Georges opener on 28 minutes that might just pip Australia´s Tim Cahill to goal of the tournament.
Colombia will next play Brazil in Fortaleza on Friday in the last eight.
