Title Defending player Andy Murray returned with a great victory to Wimbledon with a 6-1, 6-4 and 7-5 victory over lively Belgian David Goffin.
The 27-year-old, who a year ago memorably became Britain's first men's singles champion at the all England club for 77 years, walked on court to a standing ovation and responded with a clinical victory.
In the women, Li Na of China and Belarus's Victoria Azarenka also moved to second round.
In the first round, Li Na beat Paula Kania of Poland in straight sets by 7-5 and 6-2 and Victoria Azarenka defeated Mirjana Lucic by 6-3 and 7-5.
