2004 champion, fifth seeded Maria Sharapova marched to the fourth round in Wimbledon after beating American Alison Riske with small effort, having 6-3 6-0 win over
Now Russian's star will conflict with ninth seed Angelique Kerber, who beat 24th seed Kirsten Flipkens 3-6 6-3 6-2.
Also through to the last 16 are Romanian third seed Simona Halep and 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard from Canada.
If someone had told Maria Sharapova when she won the title here in 2004 that 10 years on she would be hounding a French Open-Wimbledon double, she possibly would have laughed in their faces. But after advancing into the fourth round on Saturday with another dominating and spectacular performance, the Russian looks like a woman on a mission.
French Open champion Sharapova said "I made a slow start but I felt better as the match went on."'
“I’m just happy to be in the second week,” she said after eliminating from the second round last year. “After last year’s result, I wasn’t satisfied and I was looking forward to coming back. So I am very excited to be through.”
