Tennis: Saharapova and Serena Williams cruhing into third round of Wimbledon
LONDON: Maria Sharapova, French Open champion, reserved her spot in the Wimbledon third round with a crumbling 6-2, 6-1 win against Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky, on Thursday.
Winning against Samantha Murray, Sharapova lost only one game in first round and the 2004 Wimbledon winner was almost as prevail in her second outing at the All England Club.
The 27-year-old, required just an hour to see off Bacsinszky on Court One, and will face Alison Riske, the American world number 44, for a place in the last 16
Serena Williams handed South Africa´s Chanelle Scheepers a Wimbledon masterclass as the five-time champion raced into the third round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on Thursday.
Anna Tatishvili took an hour of top seed Williams to depose in the first round and the world number one was even more feracious against Scheepers, smashing her in 49 minutes to set up a last 32 meeting with French 25th seed Alize Cornet.
